• State the purpose of your communication in the subject line of an e-mail or in the first paragraph of your letter. If the communication pertains to a piece of legislation, identify it as House bill H.R. ______, or Senate Bill S.R. _______
• Be courteous, to the point, and include key information
• Use personal examples of the potential effect of the proposed legislation on you, your family, your business and/or community
• Address only one issue in a letter
• Keep the letter to one page, if possible
• And remember, priority is given to constituent’s written correspondence
